Their horses took slow, heavy, breaths. The five travelers led their steeds to the shallow babbling creek ahead, allowing them drink after the long ride. The men had not spoken since the city had come into view. Words failed them. It was almost too vast, too glorious, and too intact to truly understand. The one city to not have been destroyed in The Fall. And somewhere inside was the Sphere. A device that could bring an end to the star storms.
As agreed, it would be Helior and Kolvetti that would search the city while the others returned to share the news with their village. In time the rest would relocate to the city. Then the research would begin. Questions needed answering. Why was the city still standing? Why was the Pressure not felt here?
"Are you ready, my friend?" Kolvetti asked. He patted his horse's neck.
"You talking to me or him?" Helior asked.
Kolvetti chuckled. "Both, I suppose." The instant the words left his mouth, a shock of pain shot through his head. "My horse is what I meant." The pain faded. "What about you? Are you ready, my friend?" He smiled.
Helior nodded. He took a deep breath. What did being ready in such a situation mean? "I don't know."
"Mm." Kolvetti's eyes scanned the city. It was a spectacle of gorgeous design. "Fair enough." Kolvetti snapped his reigns.
Helior waited a moment. So much was soon to change. He needed to process that. He smiled. Processing anything required action. He urged his horse after Kolvetti. He would find understanding in doing. In searching for the Sphere. In helping his family relocate. In looking for answers.
